Membership Orientation Group

To become a member, BCL highly recommends that you attend one of our Membership Orientation Groups. This one-hour session will provide you with an overview of our Basic and Enhanced Services, along with information about available Education & Training programs and Business Services.

Orientation attendees will complete a membership form, have questions answered and receive a tour of the library. Orientation Groups are available on a walk-in basis, but with limited seating, we recommend that you RSVP at 617-536-1888, ext. 762 or 763.

Boston Career Link offers a broad range of services for job seekers and career changers in both group and individual sessions. All counseling/workshop services are facilitated by trained employment or career counselors. Not all workshops are offered every month.

Self Assessment

 

Career Exploration with PinPoint's Self-Directed Search
PinPoint guides you through an exploration of six aspects of your personality that are highly important to career satisfaction. Its creative, interactive and dynamic, engaging you and making the process fun and appealing.

An optional exercise analyzes your daily activities over a period of time to more objectively identify your feelings about various character traits, activities, and work contexts.

The Self-Directed Search is an interest inventory that can help you understand how your personality & interests impact the career choices you make and the satisfaction you experience on the job. You will leave with a method to identify and evaluate career possibilities.

Clarifying Your Job Values
Your job values are an important part of how you determine the best job match for needs. In this workshop, you will assess what is important to you in a job.

Skills Identification Workshop
Being able to identify your skills is essential for job hunting. We will use the Skill Scan Professional Pack to help you decide which skills you want to use and develop in your next job. You will also identify self-management skills that appeal to employers. You will leave the workshop with a skills profile and ideas for how to improve your resume and prepare for interviews.

Informational Interviewing (coming soon)
Come learn how to use the greatest access tool available for career exploration! Feel the excitement of learning how to find out first hand what a given job is actually like, what skills and competencies are required. Learn to use this confidence building tool to locate a job of your choice.

How to Conduct a Job Interview
Conducting a well prepared, proactive interview will help you to turn the interview into a relaxed, focused conversation and provide a way for you to answer questions about yourself, to state your qualifications, and handle salary questions. Come learn how to prepare and implement an effective personal interviewing strategy.

Basic Resume Writing
2 hrs each
This workshop is designed for people who don't have a resume, or have a resume but need help in showing they have the skills that meet the employers need. Part I will cover how to write a resume. Part II, scheduled one week later, is designed to help you put your resume into finished format.

You have heard it said that in Networking you need to be able to tell someone who you are and what your job search focus is--in the time it takes you to ride an elevator from the first to the sixth floor. A challenge? Yes! Come and learn how to do it.

This workshop is designed to help participants understand the differences between assertive, passive, and aggressive forms of communication, and to learn general techniques for assertive communication.

Coping with Job Loss
This workshop is designed to assist dislocated workers to better identify and understand the typical emotions that occur during one's job loss and job search, and to provide participants with tools and strategies for managing their period of unemployment.

This workshop is designed to provide information regarding the dynamic of stress and its impact on the individual. In addition, participants are taught a variety of relaxation techniques to aid in stress reduction.

Come learn ways to cope with the reality of bias in your job search. We will identify positives and strengths in older workers and ways to respond to age related questions in the interview.

Job Postings
Employers regularly contact Boston Career Link to connect with up to 28,000 motivated job seekers. Employer Job Postings are placed on the Job Wall of BCL's Resources Room, and online on MassJobQuest and BostonCareerLink.com. Please contact a Customer Services Specialist or Job Placement Specialist for assistance in connecting with these jobs\employers.

Job Placement Support
If you know what kind of job you're looking for, but having difficulty finding your match, schedule time with one of our Job Placement Specialists. The Job Placement Specialist can inform you about current "hot" openings with employers, offer assistance with job search, update your job search techniques, and help you complete online applications. They will follow you for at least six weeks to make sure you are successfully connected to viable job opportunities. On-Site Recruitment Events
Meet employers face-to-face at one of our regularly scheduled On-Site Employer Events. Every week, employers come to Boston Career Link for on-the-spot screening interviews with qualified, motivated candidates. To find out which employers are coming and when, look for posted notices in the Resources Room. To sign up for an interview, register with our front desk staff.

Career Assessment Package
Our Career Assessment Package includes 3 one-hour sessions with one of our experienced career counselors, who will assess your needs and select specific exercises and tools to help you learn more about your interests, skills, or personality style. These may include administration and interpretation of tests such as the Strong Interest Inventory or the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The package is designed to help people learn more about themselves and where they fit into the world of work.
$165.00 for 3 one hour appointments

Career Coaching & Employment Advice
Choose Career Coaching when you have identified a career goal and want one-on-one feedback/coaching to help you reach your job search goal, schedule an appointment with our experienced career counselor.

Career Coaching
Need job search advice? Wondering how to answer some tough interview questions? Stuck on where else to look for open jobs? A half-hour coaching session with one of our counselors may be just the ticket to get your job search back on track.
$35.00 for a 1/2 hour appointment

Join us for this introductory session to get "hands on" exposure to the Internet and learn the best strategies to collect information for your job search. Obtain a comprehensive listing of

Job Club Networking Group
Get motivated and inspired and sharpen your job search skills every Wednesday at our weekly support group. Learn how to target the job you want, organize your job hunt, develop effective job search strategies, and turn interviews into offers. This group is open to all Boston Career Link members. Available on a walk-in basis.

Job Search Group for Individuals with Disabilities (coming soon)
This group is for job seekers interested in peer support, assistance with disability related job search advice, and other employment assistance, is facilitated by a career counselor for Individuals with Disabilities. Prior signup is recommended. Group is limited to 8. Please check monthly calendar for dates and times.
