Dimock Community Health Center
Established in 1862 as the New England Hospital for Women and Children, Dimock Community Health Center is one of Boston's premier health and human service agencies, offering comprehensive health and human services in Boston's urban neighborhoods. Located at 55 Dimock Street in the Egleston Square area of Boston, Dimock has been instrumental in developing workforce development issues from both the perspective of an employer (Dimock is the largest employer in the Egleston Square neighborhood) as well as that of a service and training provider. Dimock's mission-to enhance the health, well-being and potential of the clients it serves by using its historic campus to provide comprehensive, high-quality, and accessible health care, human services and training- recognizes the significant interaction between economic self-sufficiency and health status of individuals and families in promoting a healthy community.
Dimock has a strong Career Development Services program providing a wide range of adult literacy services, occupational skill training offerings and welfare-to-work programming.
Crittenton Women's Union
The Crittenton Women's Union (CWU) is a nonprofit
organization that transforms the course of
low-income women's lives so that they can attain
economic independence and create better futures for
themselves and their families. We accomplish this
by:
-
Providing
safe housing, caring supports, education, and
training programs;
-
Innovating
new programmatic designs based on research and
client experience;
-
Using this
knowledge and experience to shape public policy.
In July 2006, Crittenton and The
Women's Union, two organizations founded in the 19th
century, merged to better meet the needs of
low-income women and their families.
-
CWU has more
than 300 years of combined service and support
on behalf of low-income and at-risk women and
their families.
-
We are the
Commonwealth's largest provider of transitional
housing for homeless mothers and children; and
started the first transitional home for domestic
violence survivors in New England.
-
CWU offers
the opportunity for individuals to complete
their education or receive further training,
encouraging them to become economically
independent.
